Steps to becoming an adoptive parent
Step 6: Finding your child
We will consider all Edinburgh’s children who are needing parents to identify those who are compatible with you. If you are not compatible with Edinburgh’s children, we would then explore the children who are on the Scottish Adoption Register before we would then extend to a UK search.
When a compatible child has been found, information will be shared with you about the child, including their health and development, what they are like to look after, what they experienced before coming into care and their time in care and relevant information about their parents and extended family. Information about you will be shared with the child's social worker.
After receiving the information if you and the child's social worker would like to proceed you would then meet with the child’s social worker, the medical advisor and the child’s current foster carer.
If all parties would like to proceed a meeting between the involved professionals will take place to discuss the compatibility between you and the child. If the professionals agree that you and the child are compatible a Matching Panel will be scheduled.
