Step 2: Initial Assessment Report

A social worker will contact you to complete the Initial Assessment Report. This report will gather further information based on the basic criteria, detailed in the who can adopt page. The social worker will share your information with their manager and a decision will be made about your suitability to progress to the next step. If it is agreed that you can progress to the next step a Protecting Vulnerable Group scheme record check (criminal background check), Local Authority check, and Medical Record check will be initiated. If unexpected information is returned from the checks this will be discussed with you and a decision will be made by a manager about your suitability to continue.
