Steps to becoming an adoptive parent
Step 3: Preparation group
Our aim is to provide you with enough information to allow you to consider if adoption is right for you. Attendance at the group is mandatory and your attendance and participation is subject to assessment. The purpose of the group is to share information with you to help prepare you for parenting through adoption. You will attend with other applicants. The course consists of 4 full days covering a range of topics. There is a requirement to do some reading and reflection in preparation for attending sessions which will include exploring children’s case studies. You will also hear directly from adoptive parents and other professionals.
Once you have completed the course, a post group visit will be arranged with you by one of the group facilitators to discuss their assessment of you. An Adoption Prep Report will be completed and shared with a manager to decide your suitability to be invited to make an application to progress to the next step. If you are invited to progress to the next step you will be given the application form to complete within 4 weeks.
