About the children
Mia - four years old
Mia has been adopted, this is her story:
Mia was exposed to drug taking, domestic violence and possible sexual abuse during her time living with her birth mother. When Mia was taken into foster care, she was delayed in all areas of her development and did not look to her carers to have her needs met. She presented as a very anxious little girl and would rarely cry.
Mia has flourished in care, and she is now meeting all her milestones and has excellent language. Mia has a great relationship with her foster carer but can struggle with separations from her. Mia needs lots of reassurance and predictable routines. With this, she now loves going to nursery and the nursery staff have no concerns about her development. Mia is a lovely little girl who is a pleasure to be around. Mia is obsessed with Disney, loves having books read to her, and is a great swimmer. Mia can be shy when first meeting people, but with those she knows well she is a little chatterbox. Mia can be quite independent, but she has gotten more comfortable with letting people take care of her since living with her foster family. Mia can be very wary of men due to her past experiences.
Mia has an older sister and brother who were adopted together. Mia meets up with her siblings every month, and she loves seeing them. It is important that these relationships continue for Mia, the family who adopt Mia will need to be committed to supporting these links. Mia also needs a family who can support her to make sense of what has happened to her, and who can provide the level of structure she needs to feel safe and secure.
