Types of foster care
Short breaks
Short breaks foster care involves looking after a child or young person for planned overnight care in your own home, usually on a monthly or fortnightly basis. This can be for one or two weekends per month or some block periods up to a maximum of three weeks. Short breaks foster care allows children to gain new experiences and widen their support network. It also provides birth families, kinship carers and foster carers with support. For many of our short breaks carers this can fit around full-time work commitments they may have.
