Carers from diverse backgrounds needed

Foster carer

Calling out for more diverse ethnic carers during Black History Month

We always welcome foster carers from all different backgrounds, but in light of Black History Month we want to take the opportunity to highlight the need for carers from diverse heritage and cultures. We know that young people from Minority Ethnic backgrounds face additional challenges and need carers who understand the impact of racism and of growing up in a society where their culture and heritage is different.

We have children and young people from Minority Ethnic backgrounds who urgently need your support and we are keen to hear from you if you think you have something to offer a child or young person.

Fostering doesn’t always have to be full time. Many of our foster carers who offer short breaks are able to do this whilst continuing to work. You will become a valued member of Edinburgh’s Fostering team and will help care, plan, and support your foster child’s future. We offer a great support package, including on-going training, support groups, paid membership to The Fostering Network, and access to our benefit scheme to name but a few. Caring for a child is a rewarding experience, but don’t just take our word for it – here is what some of our carers have to say:

Our own children have learned so much and have gained their own insights into how lucky we are to have our home and our family and friends around us. I would encourage anyone in Edinburgh to get involved with this opportunity.
